WHAT IS FACIAL REJUVENATION? (Acupuncture Face-lift)

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process. It is a rejuvenation and revitalization process designed to help the whole body look and feel younger. The Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is based on the principles of Oriental Medicine and involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into particular areas of the face, ears, neck, hands, trunk, and legs along channels or meridians of energy called Qi. Specific points are chosen to manipulate the movement of energy in the body according to the individual's needs. Thousands of years ago the Chinese discovered that many meridians either begin or end on the face while some have internal branches that go to the face. Thus, practitioners of Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture know how to specifically effect the face while simultaneously addressing the underlying factors that contribute to the aging process.

Testimonials

"During one of my husband's early visits, I accompanied him to learn more about his treatment and Dr. Lee's medical philosophy and array of services, including acupuncture face lifting.  Shortly thereafter he gave me a gift of several sessions over 2-3 months.  A combination of facial and acupuncture tightened the look of my face.  Jowls were significantly reduce; my neck tightened; and frown lines diminished noticeably.  In the course of the treatments, Dr. Lee was also attentive to my overall health.  She answered questions about supplements, anything I asked about acupuncture, and integrated attention to minor health issues into my face lift visits.  Her openness, very positive energy, patience, and attention to detail inspire confidence in her knowledge and her abilities."

"Dr. Lee is such a great doctor.  She analyses and takes all of my symptoms into consideration.  I have had facial acupuncture with her and I left her office looking years younger and with better digestion.  I have received many compliments for how rejuvenated and relaxed I looked.  Thanks to you Dr. Lee!  I highly recommend her!"

After the first treatment, one usually observes an increased glow to the complexion, the result of increased Qi and blood flow to the face. The person's face appears more "open", there is a clarity in the eyes ("clear Shen"), and the patient appears to be more rested; wrinkles start to lessen and the skin appears more toned.

A significance difference in appearance can be ascertained following the 5th to 7th treatments; even more marked changes in wrinkles, skin tone, etc. The impression of relaxation and calm is more pronounced as if returning from vacation. Lifting of the jowls, neck, and the eyes has begun and is usually noticeable. With continuing treatment, constitutional issues like digestive complaints have been ameliorated or subsided.

By the end of a series, the patient should look and feel 5-15 years younger. These results may vary slightly, depending upon how well the patient has taken care of herself during the process, and afterward. At this stage, booster treatments provide ongoing support within a normal process of aging.

Who would benefit from Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?

Anyone concerned with looking and feeling young and slowing down the aging process. The decision to begin may be professionally or personally inspired or a combination of both. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is suitable for those with deep wrinkles, fine lines, bags under the eyes, sagging, puffiness, drooping eyelids, double chin, large pores, dry skin or acne. Different methods are emphasized and specific points stimulated according to how an individual is aging. A person with excess puffiness, for example, would require a different protocol than someone with dry skin. The whole person is evaluated on the body-mind continuum--the foundation of Holistic Medicine.

What is the Course of Treatment?

Generally, it consists of 12-15 treatments. Smokers or people whose skin tends to sag, i.e., who manifest jowls, “turkey wattles,” droopy eyes, require at least 20 treatments. The effects become most noticeable and lasting on or about the 7th session. Each person responds differently, depending on his or her condition and lifestyle. Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance sessions can prolong the results for 5-10 years. It is often recommended to supplement the Facial Rejuvenation program with a healthy diet and nutritional supplements.

Maintenance Treatments: Within the normal parameters of aging, the completion of a series of treatments should be effective. To ensure the persistence of the results, ongoing maintenance treatments are recommended. Every 2 weeks for 2 months following the completion of a treatment series, then once a month for an indefinite amount of time.

Does it Really Make a Difference?

Many sources indicate that acupuncture has been used for almost 5,000 years to address a wide range of conditions. Having proven itself with literally billions of people, Acupuncture has survived the test of time. The use of Acupuncture in Cosmetology–especially in preventing and reducing wrinkles–has already attracted great attention in Japan, Hong Kong, and Sweden. The effectiveness of Acupuncture is due to its direct manipulation of the body's energy system–balancing, removing blockages or adding enery when necessary. A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases with Facial Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. The effects included: the skin becoming delicate and fair, improvement of the elasticity of facial muscles and leveling of wrinkles, a ruddier complexion, and overall rejuvenation–not confined to the face.

Why choose Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture over a surgical face-lift?

While not a replacement for surgery, Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation is an excellent alternative. It is far less costly than cosmetic surgery and is safe, virtually painless, has no risk of disfigurement.  While Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture cannot reshape one's nose or chin, it is a more subtle rejuvenation that takes years off one's face–safely and naturally while improving overall health.

Are There Any Contraindications?

  • Severe high blood pressure (it is OK when the blood pressure is under control and the patient is seeing a medical doctor)
  • Severe migraines (if the patient is having a migraine only once every 3 months or so, they can receive facial acupuncture)
  • Be aware that it takes a patient 3 weeks to recover from laser resurfacing on the face. Do not needle during that time; wait a week after microdermabrasion.
  • Pituitary disorders
  • Bleeding/bruising problems

Do Not Perform During:

  • Pregnancy
  • Colds or flu
  • Acute herpes outbreak
  • Acute allergic reactions

In the latter 3 instances, once the condition has passed, the patient may receive a facial acupuncture.
